You don’t have to be a superhero to save somebody’s life. Regardless of who you are, where you live, or what you do for a living, there are certain things that you can do to protect others from fatal accidents and illnesses.
Heeding the advice laid out below could be one of the most important things that you ever do. Here are three ways you can help save the lives of others.
Wash your hands properly
A simple yet effective thing that you can do to potentially save the lives of others is to wash your hands properly. The importance of proper hand washing can never be understated, which is why your parents drummed it into you during your childhood.
Here’s when you should be giving your hands a thorough clean after:
• Using the toilet
• Changing nappies
• Using a tissue or your hand to cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing
• Spending time in the company of someone who is ill or hospitalized
• Gardening or working outdoors
• Handling animals
Learn first aid
Knowledge of basic first aid training can literally make all the difference in life and death situations. Should you ever see somebody who is in desperate need of such assistance, you should be able to provide it in a quick and effective fashion.
Here are just a few forms of first aid assistance that you should take the time to learn:
If you see that somebody is choking
1. Encourage them to cough
2. Slap them five times between the shoulder blades
3. Wrap your arms around them and give them five abdominal thrusts
If you see that somebody is bleeding profusely
1. Press the area that is bleeding
2. Raise this area
3. Call for an ambulance
If you see that somebody is unconscious
1. Open their airway
2. Tilt their head back
3. Check for breathing
4. If they are breathing, put them in the recovery position
5. If they aren’t breathing, call for medical assistance and start performing CPR (30 chest compressions at a rate of 120 p/m, two sharp rescue breaths, repeat until person regains consciousness or help arrives)
Prevent terrorism
Unfortunately, terrorism is a serious danger that the world now faces. To protect yourself, your loved ones, and the general public from this very real problem, you should actively attempt to prevent it. Here are a few ways in which you can do just that:
Donate to anti-terrorism charities
According to experts at the think tank FDD, the key to terrorism prevention is to provide teenagers that have shown signs of radizalization with a positive social environment. In this environment, they should be retaught about Islamic religious terms and cultural practices. To afford to be able to provide this type of educational opportunity to teens that are seemingly in danger of being radicalized, the FDD need people like yourself to donate to their anti-terrorism charity.
Remain vigilant in public places
Should you ever find yourself alongside a large quantity of people in a public place (a subway station, a festival, a concert, a shopping center, etc.), you need to remain vigilant at all times. If you notice behavior that you deem suspicious, don’t be afraid to report it to any authoritative figures that are positioned nearby.
If you put the above advice into practice, you could very well end up saving a person’s life one day.
