What can be as breathtaking as real money casino games? Detective movies with unpredictable plots! And there are several films you should watch if you are a Bollywood lover.
Samrat & Co, 2014
One day a beautiful girl, Dimpy, comes to private detective Samrat asking for help. Her large family is frightened by rumors of a ghost supposedly haunting their home. Samrat agrees to help, but a day later, after inspecting the manor, the mystery becomes more complicated. Dimpy’s father is found strangled in his own office. All his family members and servants are among the suspects. Samrat takes the case seriously, investigating the murder, which does not prevent him and immerse himself in a romantic relationship.
Rajeev Khandelwal played the lead role of the clever detective in the film. In Bollywood, the actor is not too well-known. Half of his film career, he starred in television projects, and on the big screen, he appeared only in 2008. Rajeev, by his own admission, accepted the role of Samrat out of interest.
Critics have accused the director of clearly trying to make Samrat an Indian Sherlock Holmes, relying on the image created by Benedict Cumberbatch in the British series. Samrat, too, wears a coat with a high collar and also makes extensive use of his intuition and phenomenal memory.
36 China Town, 2006
Sonia, a wealthy casino owner, has her young son kidnapped. The desperate mother promises a hefty reward for anyone who brings her child back. The boy is found by Priya and Raj, casual acquaintances in desperate need of money. While they are trying to bring the boy home, his mother is murdered. But here’s the mystery: Sonia’s body disappears, along with the money that Priya and Raj were owed. Police investigator Karan and his assistant, Ravi, unravel the mystery.
Priya and Raja in the film are played by Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor, who apparently did not even have to try to portray a growing mutual sympathy. At the time of filming, the actors really were in a relationship.
The role of the investigator was played by the handsome Upen Patel. 36 China Town was his debut Bollywood film. Before that, the young man worked as a model and TV presenter. The critics liked his acting so much that they awarded Upen three different prizes in the category Best Debut Role.
