Social media personality Vikas Fhatak, popularly known as Hindustani Bhau, has filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan. The petition alleges that during a February 2025 episode of the cooking reality show ‘Celebrity MasterChef,’ Khan referred to the Hindu festival Holi as “a festival for the Chhapris,” a term considered derogatory.
Fhatak contends that the term “Chhapris” implies a lack of culture and refinement, and that Khan’s remarks, made on a widely viewed public platform, have hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community and possess the potential to incite communal unrest.
Prior to approaching the High Court, Fhatak filed a formal complaint with the Senior Inspector at Khar Police Station on February 21, 2025, requesting an FIR against Khan. He subsequently escalated the matter to senior police officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and Additional Commissioner of Police, but alleges that no action has been taken to date.
The petition, filed through advocate Ali Kaashif Khan-Deshmukh, emphasizes that Holi is a festival symbolizing the triumph of good over evil and promotes unity. Fhatak asserts that Khan’s comments are an insult to the cultural and religious sentiments of millions of Hindus worldwide.
As of now, the Bombay High Court has yet to make a decision regarding the petition, and no official response from Farah Khan has been reported.
