Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu is set to lead India’s challenge at the Swiss Open 2025 badminton tournament, which begins on March 18 in Basel, Switzerland. Sindhu, who clinched the Swiss Open title in 2022, is seeded seventh this year and aims to regain her top form after a recent first-round exit at the All England Championship.
In her opening match, Sindhu faces fellow Indian shuttler Malvika Bansod, marking a clash between experience and emerging talent. Bansod recently secured a confidence-boosting win over Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min, setting the stage for a compelling encounter.
The men’s singles category was initially set to feature an all-Indian first-round match between Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy. However, Lakshya Sen has withdrawn from the tournament, leading to Kidambi Srikanth’s promotion to the main draw. Consequently, Srikanth will now face Prannoy in the opening round.
The Swiss Open 2025 boasts a strong Indian contingent across various categories. In women’s singles, alongside Sindhu and Bansod, players like Aakarshi Kashyap and Anupama Upadhyaya are set to compete. The men’s singles qualifiers include Priyanshu Rajawat and Kiran George, among others. In women’s doubles, the pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will represent India, while the mixed doubles category features combinations such as Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh.
Fans can catch the live streaming of Swiss Open 2025 matches on the BWF TV YouTube channel. However, there will be no live telecast on television channels in India.
As the tournament unfolds, Indian shuttlers will be keen to showcase their prowess on the international stage, with Sindhu leading the charge in pursuit of another Swiss Open title.
