Lahore, Sep 4: In the fourth group stage match played in the Asia Cup 2023 between Bangladesh and Afghanistan, Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by a huge margin of 89 runs.
This match was played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Bangladesh captain Shakib won the toss and decided to bat first. Mohammad Naim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who came to open for Bangladesh, gave a good start to Bangladesh’s innings, both of them made a half-century partnership.
But before the end of the power play, in 9.5 overs, Naeem was clean bowled by
and gave his team the first success. Even before Bangladesh could recover from this injury, Gulbadin dismissed Towhid Hridoy without scoring any runs and brought Afghanistan back into the game.
But after this crisis, Bangladesh batsmen Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz handled the innings very well. And with the help of both of them, Bangladesh made a huge score of 334 runs in 50 overs.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 112(119) and Najmul Hossain Shanto 104(105) for Bangladesh, Mujeeb and Gulbadin took 1-1 for Afghanistan.
Afghanistan’s opening pair Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran came to start the second innings, but in the very second over of the innings, Shoriful Islam dismissed Gurbaz in the form of LBW.
Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah kept the innings under control for a while but Taskin clean bowled Rahmat in 17 overs and gave another big blow to Afghanistan.

Bangladesh’s bowlers kept taking wickets at intervals and never allowed Afghanistan to get the upper hand in the game.
And Afghanistan were all out for just 245 runs in 44.3 overs, winning the game by 89 runs.
For Afghanistan, Ibrahim Zadran took 75 (74) and Hashmatullah Shahidi 51 (60) runs, and for Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed took 4 wickets and Shoriful Islam took 3 wickets.

With this win, Bangladesh are still in contention to qualify in the top 4, although they will have to wait for the match between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, which will be played on the 6th.
