New Delhi, November 23: Cricketer Gautam Gambhir has joined IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is the IPL team of Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan. Earlier, Gautam Gambhir was associated with Lucknow Supergiants. But now he is returning to Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor. Shahrukh called Gambhir a family member.
Cricketer Gautam Gambhir has played with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) before. He has also been the captain of this team in the past and under his representation the team has won the title twice. Under Gambhir’s representation, KKR won the IPL title in 2012 and 2014.
While they defeated Chennai Super Kings in the 2012 final, they won the title by defeating Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the 2014 final. IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had qualified for the playoffs five times under Gambhir’s captaincy. KKR also reached the final of the Champions League T20 in 2014. Gautam Gambhir also has the credit of being the player who scored the most runs for KKR.
On Wednesday 22 November, it was announced that Gautam Gambhir would join KKR. Gautam Gambhir will work with head coach Chandrakant Pandit. The captain of this team will be Shreyas Iyer. Shreyas Iyer did not play in IPL 2023 due to injury. In his place the team was represented by Nitish Rana. A mini auction is expected to be held on December 19 before the Indian Premier League 2024.

Responding to this, KKR owner Shahrukh Khan said, “Because Gautam Gambhir is our own and will always be ours.” Gautam Gambhir is KKR’s family, he is the captain of KKR.”

Gautam Gambhir said in a statement issued by IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) that he is hungry for more wins with the franchise. He further said, “I am not influenced by emotions, but this feeling is very different. I am back where I started. It feels very different when I think about wearing that iconic purple and gold jersey again. I am coming back to the City of Joy, not just KKR. I’m back, I’m hungry. I am number 23. When Gambhir played for KKR team, his jersey number was 23.
Regarding Gautam Gambhir, KKR owner Shahrukh Khan said that Gautam has always been a part of the family. Now he is returning to this family in a different avatar as a mentor. When he was not with us, we felt his absence.
Gautam Gambhir was associated with Lucknow Supergiants as a mentor for the last few seasons. He penned an emotional note for Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) fans, saying, “I am filled with love and gratitude for all the players, coaches, support staff and everyone who has made this journey memorable. I am confident that in the future the LSG team will do wonders and make the fans of Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) proud.”
