In the latest developments of the IPL 2025 season, the playoff landscape has shifted significantly following the rain-induced abandonment of the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
RCB’s Playoff Position
The washout resulted in both teams sharing a point, propelling RCB to the top of the points table with 17 points from 12 matches. While this positions them favorably, their qualification for the playoffs isn’t mathematically guaranteed yet. If RCB loses their remaining two matches and other contenders like Gujarat Titans (GT), Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) win their games, multiple teams could end up with 17 or more points. In such a scenario, the Net Run Rate (NRR) would become the deciding factor, potentially jeopardizing RCB’s playoff spot.
For KKR, the abandoned match was a critical blow. With only 12 points from 13 matches, even a victory in their final game would only elevate them to 14 points, which falls short of the typical qualification threshold. Consequently, KKR has been officially eliminated from the playoff race, ending their campaign prematurely.
Upcoming Matches for RCB
RCB’s remaining fixtures are against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23 and Lucknow Super Giants on May 27. Securing at least one win in these matches would solidify their playoff berth, eliminating reliance on other match outcomes.
