London, Sep 5: White-ball captain Kane Williamson will be included in New Zealand’s 15-man squad for the 2023 Men’s World Cup in India as he recovers from surgery on a knee injury sustained in the IPL, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said.
Williamson suffered this injury while trying to save a six on a shot by Ruturaj Gaikwad on the boundary in the Chennai Super Kings vs. Gujarat Titans match played on March 31 in Ahmedabad in IPL 2023. After this injury, she was ruled out of the entire tournament. He was seriously injured and had to immediately return to New Zealand.
New Zealand Cricket reported that Williamson had made his recovery “quickly and well enough” to be included in the squad for the World Cup tournament. However, as of now, Williamson is not fully fit and continues his rehabilitation from the injury.
Speaking on this, Williamson said, “Throughout this whole process, I have tried to keep an open mind as to when I will be able to return to cricket and am working with the team to get back on the field. I am very curious.
On the same issue, New Zealand’s team head coach Gary Stead said that Williamson has been selected but it does not guarantee that he will be with the team in the first match against England on October 5. Or not, but he also said that Williamson is making strong progress in his recovery.
