The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise proceeded with their IPL 2025 victory celebrations on Wednesday, June 4, despite advisories from Bengaluru Police recommending a postponement to Sunday, June 8. Police officials had cautioned that immediate celebrations could lead to overcrowding and inadequate safety measures. However, RCB reportedly insisted on the earlier date, citing concerns that foreign players would depart the city before the weekend, making their participation in the celebrations unlikely.
Tragically, the event resulted in a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, leading to the deaths of at least 11 individuals and injuries to over 50 others. The incident has sparked widespread criticism of both RCB and the state government for proceeding with the event despite safety warnings.
In response to the tragedy, RCB has pledged financial assistance of ₹10 lakh to the families of the deceased and announced the establishment of the “RCB Cares” fund to support the injured.
