New Delhi, October 12: Shubman Gill is set to rejoin the Indian cricket team in Ahmedabad, but his participation in the much-awaited World Cup match against Pakistan on October 14 remains uncertain due to his recovery from dengue fever.
Gill did not accompany the team to Delhi for its second World Cup match against Afghanistan, he also missed India’s tournament opener against Australia on October 8. He was admitted to a hospital in Chennai for treatment but was later discharged after his health improved.
“Gill is absolutely fine and is scheduled to leave for Ahmedabad from Chennai today this is confirmed by BCCI official. It is still not clear whether Gill will be able to join the light training session in Motera on Thursday. However, his recovery “The progress has been positive.” It is uncertain whether he will be fit to play against Pakistan or not.”
In the absence of Gill, Ishan Kishan formed the opening pair with Rohit Sharma in the match against Australia. India faced a precarious situation, with the top three batsmen including Kishan, Rohit and Shreyas Iyer all out for ducks. Nevertheless, the Indian team managed to recover and successfully chased the target of 200 runs to win with six wickets in hand and 52 balls to spare.
Shubman Gill has performed brilliantly in ODIs this year and has emerged as the leading run-scorer with a total of 1230 runs at an average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03. In his last four ODIs, he has scored two centuries and one half-century, underscoring his importance to the Indian team’s batting lineup.
