Australian cricketer Steve Smith has announced his retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket following Australia’s semi-final loss to India in the ICC Champions Trophy. Smith, 35, concluded his ODI career with 5,800 runs in 170 matches, averaging 43.28, including 12 centuries and 35 half-centuries.
Reflecting on his decision, Smith stated, “It has been a great ride and I have loved every minute of it. There have been so many amazing times and wonderful memories. Winning two World Cups was a great highlight along with the many fantastic teammates who shared the journey.”
Smith played a pivotal role in Australia’s World Cup victories in 2015 and 2023. Despite retiring from ODIs, he will continue to play Test cricket and remains available for Twenty20 Internationals.
