Sunjay Kapur, aged 53, tragically passed away on June 12, 2025, in the UK while playing polo. Mid-match, he reportedly swallowed a bee, which led to an internal sting, triggering an allergic reaction and fatal heart attack. Despite immediate medical attention, he could not be revived.
Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a global automotive components firm specializing in electric vehicle parts. Under his leadership, Sona Comstar expanded across India, the US, China, Mexico, and Serbia. He was also an avid polo player, known to frequent elite clubs like Windsor’s Guards Polo Club and rub shoulders with international figures such as Prince William.
Born on October 15, 1971, in Michigan, Kapur received his early education at The Doon School (Dehradun) and Cathedral & John Connon (Mumbai). He earned a BBA from the University of Buckingham and completed executive education programs at MIT and Harvard Business School.
On the personal front, Kapur was married three times. His first marriage was to designer Nandita Mahtani. In 2003, he wed Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, with whom he had two children—Samaira and Kiaan—before their divorce in 2016 amid public allegations and legal disputes over dowry and spousal conduct. He later married model and entrepreneur Priya Sachdev in 2017, and together they had a son.
His sudden death left a deep void in both business and sporting circles. Sona Comstar officially expressed profound sorrow, honoring his visionary leadership. Medical experts noted that internal bee stings, while rare, can indeed induce severe reactions like anaphylactic shock and cardiovascular collapse.
