New Delhi, November 23: The inaugural edition of the Khelo India Para Games will take place in New Delhi from December 10 to 17, with over 1,350 participants from 32 states and union territories competing in seven different disciplines. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur announced the event and expressed his excitement about its potential impact on improving para-sports in India and identifying and supporting talented athletes with disabilities.
Thakur hoped that the first edition of Khelo India Para Games would be successful and transformative and wished all the best to the para-athletes participating in the upcoming Games. The event aims to contribute significantly to the development and recognition of para-sports in the country.
The announcement comes after India’s commendable performance at the Hangzhou Asian Games, where para-athletes won 29 gold, 31 silver and 51 bronze medals, surpassing the record of 107 medals won by able-bodied athletes. With this achievement, India stood fifth in the overall medal table.
