Caracas, January 1 (UITV) – TikTok and controversies have a long history and this Chinese app has faced criticism in many countries. Now Venezuela has also taken strict action against this app and imposed a fine of $ 10 million against it. This fine was imposed at a time when three teenagers died and more than 200 people were hospitalized due to a dangerous challenge going viral on TikTok.
Venezuela’s Supreme Tribunal of Justice accused TikTok of negligence, saying that it did not take effective steps to prevent the spread of harmful content targeting young users. The court also ordered that TikTok, owned by ByteDance, must set up its office in Venezuela within eight days and pay the fine imposed immediately, if this does not happen, the company will face additional penalties.
Venezuela issued this order saying that the fine amount will be used to create a fund for TikTok victims, which aims to compensate for the physical, mental and emotional damages of children and adolescents. This initiative is especially for those users who participated in dangerous challenges on TikTok and due to this they suffered physical or mental problems.
Officials say that videos of dangerous challenges on TikTok had gone viral, which included dangerous acts like consuming chemical substances. Although TikTok has announced its policies against self-harm and dangerous behavior, critics believe that these policies have not been followed effectively, due to which such dangerous videos easily go viral.
Viral challenges have become an important part of TikTok’s global success. These challenges often involve dance, funny jokes or games, which are popular among the audience, but when these challenges are dangerous or promote self-harm, it can lead to serious consequences for young users. Such challenges going viral on TikTok have always been criticized that they can have a bad effect on the mental and physical health of the youth.
This case of Venezuela is an example of how any type of dangerous challenge or video going viral on a normal social media platform can become a serious problem. Especially when children and teenagers are involved in these challenges, its effect can be even more dangerous. This incident has shown how important it is to prioritize the safety and well-being of users on social media platforms.
After this incident, TikTok has been given a serious warning that it will have to strictly enforce its policies and take more effective steps to prevent the spread of dangerous content. If social media platforms do not take any steps in this direction, they may have to face more such legal disputes in the future, as has now happened in the case of Venezuela.
