Tui Brewery, Mangatainoka
Producing one of New Zealand’s original beers, the Tui brewery in Mangatainoka runs brewery tours. The famed Tui Brewery can be found in the little village of Mangatainoka, about 30 minutes south of Palmerston North, with its unique brick tower, brew house, cafe, free museum, quirky shop, and, of course, top-notch Tui beer. Enjoy lunch at the restaurant after a sample paddle of Tui pale ale, Mangatainoka Magic, and Mangatainoka Dark, Brew 1889.
On Emerson’s brewery tour, you can see the entire brewing process from the malt room to fermentation, bottling, and tasting. After the 45-minute tour, visit Emerson’s taproom to sample pale ales (including the tropical “Orange Roughy”), New Zealand pilsner, English porter, and other beers. The onsite restaurant serves shared platters and refreshments to round out the day.
Monteith’s Brewery, Greymouth
Monteith’s Brewery is located on the West Coast in the little town of Greymouth. The Monteith’s Brewery adventure begins in the Beertopia Room, which also houses the intriguing Monteith’s Museum. Here you’ll learn about the history and colourful stories of Monteith, which began in 1868 right here on the West Coast. You’ll next enter the brewery to see, touch, taste, and smell the New Zealand grown ingredients used to make Monteith’s craft beers.
