A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the southern part of the Philippines in the province of Sultan Kudarat. The earthquake occurred on Thursday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
According to news agency Xinhua, the institute reported that the 7.0-magnitude earthquake occurred at 10:13 am local time. It was about 133 kilometers southwest of the coastal city of Palembang and was at a depth of 722 kilometers.
Earthquake tremors were also felt in neighboring provinces of Mindanao Island. The island of Mindanao is the second largest island in the country. According to reports, tremors were also felt in Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Davao de Oro, Sarangani, Davao del Norte and Cotabato.
About earthquakes, the institute says that the tremors will be caused by tectonic earthquakes, but the chances of causing any damage are low. The institute says that the earthquake will not cause a tsunami.
