August 10 – On Wednesday, an FBI operation killed a guy who had made online threats against President Joe Biden and other authorities.
Agents were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Craig Robertson at his home in Utah, just hours before Mr Biden was scheduled to visit the state.
According to the criminal complaint, Robertson made threats on Facebook against Mr. Biden and a prosecutor investigating Donald Trump.
The FBI declined to provide additional information.
The attack occurred around 06:15 a.m. local time in Provo, roughly 40 miles (65 kilometres) south of Salt Lake City.
A criminal complaint detailed remarks posted on Facebook by Robertson, including images of guns and threats to assassinate Mr Biden and Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney overseeing an investigation into Mr Trump’s hush-money payment to an adult film star.
Other messages, according to the complaint, were directed at US Attorney General Merrick Garland and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
“I hear Biden is coming to Utah,” Robertson said on Facebook. “I’m digging out my old ghillie suit and wiping the dust off the M24 sniper rifle.”
It was one of dozens of violent statements and weapon photographs posted on two of Robertson’s Facebook pages.
According to the lawsuit, Robertson came to the notice of federal officials in March after posting a threat against Mr Bragg on Truth Social, Mr Trump’s social network. The FBI’s National Threat Operations Centre was notified.
The suspect then met with FBI investigators, who informed them that the post was a “dream” and terminated the session by declaring, “We’re done here! “Do not return unless you have a warrant!”
Later writings by Robertson mentioned his interaction with the agents, depicted him in sniper camouflage, and repeatedly threatened public authorities.
The postings continued until Tuesday, when he stated, “Perhaps Utah will become famous this week as the place where a sniper took out Biden the Marxist.”
On Thursday, Mr. Biden will make his first trip to Utah as president, visiting a veterans’ hospital and attending a fundraising event in Park City.
