Sep 26 – Residents in a Spanish village are shocked and distressed after several AI-generated sexual photographs of local teenagers circulated online. According to a BBC story, AI-generated naked photographs of adolescent girls in Almendralejo, aged 11 to 17, have been circulating on social media sites without their knowledge or agreement.
Notably, the images were largely acquired from the ladies’ social media accounts before being processed by an AI tool that generated a bogus image of the individual without clothes. Approximately 20-30 females between the ages of 11 and 17 have come forward as victims.
The mother of a 14-year-old, Mara Blanco Rayo, told the BBC, “One day my daughter came out of school and she said ‘Mum there are photos circulating of me topless’. I asked her if she had taken any photos of herself nude, and she said, ‘No, Mum, these are fake photos of girls that are being created a lot right now and there are other girls in my class that this has happened to as well.”
Dr. Miriam Al Adib, the mother of one of the victims, stated in an Instagram video that the modified images are disturbing for everyone, especially her 14-year-old daughter.
”If I didn’t know my daughter’s body, this photo looks real. You (the culprits) are not aware of the damage you are causing. Using images to create this disgusting material and distributing them is a very serious crime,” she said.
“Girls, don’t be afraid to report such acts. Tell your mothers. Affected mothers, tell me so that you can be in the group that we created,” she added.
Local authorities are currently working with 11 complaints from victims, all of whom are children. The parents of the affected children have also formed a support group to assist them in their ordeal.
According to the BBC, at least 11 local lads were involved in the fabrication of the photographs or their distribution via the WhatsApp and Telegram apps. They are also investigating a report that a bogus image of one of the girls was used to extort her.
According to a local police official, the people responsible for these “manipulated photos of underage girls” placed their innocent faces onto the “bodies of other people” in other images.
