In a concerning development, at least 15 schools in Bengaluru have fallen victim to bomb threat emails, triggering a swift response from local authorities. Private schools, particularly in Yelahanka and Basaveshwaranagara, as well as several schools in Anekal, received these alarming threats.
The threats were brought to light when diligent school staff members opened their email accounts, discovering messages containing bomb threats. In response, the Bengaluru Police swiftly mobilized police personnel along with specialized bomb squads to thoroughly inspect the premises of the affected schools.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda provided insights into the situation, highlighting that bomb detection squads and bomb disposal units were promptly deployed to assess the potential threat. Drawing on past experiences, Commissioner Dayananda urged the public not to succumb to panic, expressing confidence that these threats are likely to be hoaxes.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar took a proactive approach by personally visiting one of the schools that had received bomb threats. This led to a scene of heightened anxiety, with concerned parents rushing to the schools and waiting anxiously outside the premises to ensure the safe return of their children.
It’s noteworthy that such bomb threats targeting schools have been a recurring issue in the past year. However, investigations consistently revealed that these threats turned out to be hoaxes, emphasizing the importance of remaining vigilant while acknowledging the likelihood of false alarms in these situations. The ongoing response from law enforcement and public officials underscores the seriousness with which these threats are taken, even as authorities work to manage and mitigate the potential risks.
