German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has refused to send his ground forces to Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron had suggested the European country to do so a day earlier.
According to the report of news agency Xinhua, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius held a meeting with Austrian Defense Minister Claudia Tanner in Vienna on Tuesday. “There is no alternative for the Federal Republic of Germany to land troops,” German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said at a press conference after the meeting.
French President Emmanuel Macron’s comments were described by Austrian Defense Minister Claudia Tanner as a “worrying sign”.
French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his reluctance to rule out the possibility of sending ground troops to Ukraine at a gathering of 20 European leaders in Paris. He said that the West will do everything to prevent Russia’s victory in Ukraine. At the European Leaders’ Assembly, Macron also said there was no official consensus among European leaders.
The meeting of European leaders was called to strengthen the European response to Russia’s military advances in Ukraine, highlighting the lack of a unanimous stance on the matter.
Macron expressed concern over Russia’s growing ambitions after the meeting, saying that Russia’s broad regional ambitions pose a significant threat to many countries.
