Ottawa, Aug 16: According to reports, the Canadian military has reportedly evacuated hundreds of people trapped in the midst of massive wildfires in the country’s northwestern region.
As of Tuesday, Canada has nearly 1,100 active fires across the country and Canada is currently witnessing its worst-ever wildfire season, reports BBC.
A total of 13.2 million hectares of land has been burnt in Canada so far.
The Canadian government has deployed its military to the Northwest Territories to help combat the fires and coordinate evacuations.
On Monday, the regional capital Yellowknife declared a local state of emergency because of the “imminent threat” of wildfires.
This July saw a record hot temperature in the Northwest Territories, reaching 37.4°C in the community of Fort Good Hope.
Wildfires are also burning in British Columbia, where multiple heat warnings are in force because of record-high temperatures this week.
