Amizmiz (Morocco), Sep 12: The latest update from the Moroccan government reveals serious damage following the recent devastating earthquake that hit the country. The death toll has tragically risen to 2,681, with an additional 2,501 people injured.
International aid has started arriving in response to this disaster. Teams from both Spain and the United Kingdom quickly reached the village of Amizamiz, located near the epicenter. Helicopters were apparently flying between the quake-hit old city of Marrakesh and other areas affected by the earthquake, Xinhua news agency reported.
Rescue and relief missions focus on reaching the most severely affected mountain areas. However, a serious challenge remains in the form of shortages, especially in the supply of gasoline and essential commodities. The seismic event, which measured 6.8, hit Morocco at exactly 11:11 pm. local time on Friday. According to information provided by the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 18.5 kilometers.
