Former President Donald Trump has inched closer to securing the Republican presidential nomination by emerging victorious over Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire primary. Celebrating his win, Trump declared, “We’ve now won New Hampshire three times, every time in the primary, every time in the generals.”
Despite his success in three Republican primaries in New Hampshire, Trump has yet to secure a victory in a general election there, having been defeated by Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020.
Nikki Haley, undeterred by her loss, has affirmed her commitment to continuing her campaign. Addressing a gathering in Concord, New Hampshire, she asserted, “This race is far from over,” highlighting the numerous states still to come, with South Carolina being the next battleground.
“I’m a fighter, and I’m scrappy, and now we’re the last ones standing next to Donald Trump,” Haley declared.
Discussing the Republican losses in the Senate and House under Trump’s leadership, she remarked, “We lost in 2018. We lost in 2020, and we lost in 2022.” Haley expressed concern that Democrats eagerly anticipate facing Trump in an election, believing him to be the only Republican Joe Biden can defeat.
Emphasizing that millions of voters nationwide are yet to cast their ballots, Haley urged honoring their voices, stating, “Our fight is not over because we have a country to save.”
Earlier in January, Trump solidified his front-runner status in the Republican primary by winning the Iowa caucuses. However, he faces a slew of legal challenges while actively campaigning. In the previous year, Trump made history as the first U.S. president to have a mugshot taken, a result of being booked at an Atlanta jail on allegations of attempting to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.
