Rabat, Sep 9: In a tragic turn of events, a powerful earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale struck central Morocco, killing at least 296 people. Morocco’s Interior Ministry confirmed the devastating incident on Saturday.
According to information received from the US Geological Survey, the epicenter was located in the High Atlas Mountains, 71 kilometers southwest of Marrakesh, at a depth of 18.5 kilometers. BBC reported these details.

The quake, which struck at exactly 11:11 pm, caused panic, as captured in videos shared on social media platforms. The clip showed damaged buildings, debris-strewn roads, and people running from the affected areas. Reports suggest that tremors were felt as far as the capital Rabat, some 350 km from the epicenter.
