Sep 15 – Russia said on Thursday that the US was hypocritical in criticising President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un because Washington had sowed turmoil and provided weapons to friends throughout the world.
“The United States has no right to lecture us on how to live,” said Anatoly Antonov, Russia’s ambassador to the United States, in a statement.
The developing friendship between Kim and Putin is a source of concern for the US and its allies: North Korea has been accused by Washington of supplying arms to Russia, but it is unclear whether any transfers have occurred.
According to Antonov, the US has formed an Asian coalition, expanded military drills on the Korean peninsula, and is supplying Ukraine with billions of dollars in armaments.
“It is time for Washington to throw its economic sanctions into the rubbish dump,” Antonov said. “Maintaining the unipolar dominance so beloved by American officials is no longer possible.”
