The US Congress has finally approved a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine after months of waiting.
The bill was earlier approved by the US House of Representatives on Saturday. Now the Senate approved the bill with 79 votes in the 100-seat upper house.
This bill will be passed after US President Joe Biden’s signature.
US President Joe Biden said immediately after the vote that he would sign the bill into law. As soon as it reaches my desk, I will address the American people so that we can begin sending weapons and equipment to Ukraine this week. He further said that he wants arms and equipment to start being delivered to Ukraine this week.
Joe Biden said that the US Congress has demonstrated the power of American leadership in the world by passing a legislative package of billions of dollars in aid to Israel and Taiwan.
We stand firmly for democracy and freedom and against tyranny and oppression.
Joe Biden said that Russia is continuously bombing Ukraine, due to which Ukraine needs immediate support. The bill that passed also included aid to Israel. Recently, Iran launched an unprecedented attack on Israel.
He further said that this important law will make our country and the world more secure. We fully support all our friends who are defending themselves against terrorists like Hamas and tyrants like Putin.
About $23 billion in the U.S. aid package is earmarked for military stockpiles, which Ukraine will receive indirectly and keep in the U.S.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has thanked the US Senate for providing significant aid to Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the bill further strengthens America’s role as a symbol of democracy and leader of the free world.
Earlier, Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder told reporters in Washington that new military aid would be delivered to Ukraine in a few days.
