US President Donald Trump’s push to rename artificial intelligence as “Super Intelligence” has drawn fresh attention after an official White House document contained a spelling mistake in the name of the country.
The error appeared in the White House Accord on Super Intelligence, signed by Trump and several leading technology executives during a meeting on September 29. In the document, the phrase “President of the United States” was incorrectly written as “President of the Unites States.”
The typo appeared directly below Trump’s signature and quickly spread across social media, where users posted jokes and comments about the mistake. Some users humorously suggested that the country had effectively been renamed the “Unites States.”
The spelling error came as Trump announced that the US government would officially refer to artificial intelligence as “Super Intelligence,” or “SI.” Trump had first announced the terminology change during his address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 22.
Trump argued that the word “artificial” makes the technology sound fake and said “super intelligence” was a more appropriate description. He later reiterated the change during a White House meeting with technology leaders, saying the name had been officially changed to SI.
The White House meeting brought together some of the biggest names in the technology industry, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI’s Greg Brockman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. The meeting focused on the development and safety of increasingly powerful AI systems.
The White House Accord outlines voluntary measures for AI companies, including internal safety controls, external audits and independent reviews by company boards. The companies involved agreed to adopt processes intended to monitor risks associated with advanced AI development.
While the document’s typo is minor, it quickly became a talking point online because it appeared on an official agreement centered on what Trump described as “Super Intelligence.” The incident has added an ironic twist to an event focused on advancing and managing increasingly sophisticated technology.
