Turkish authorities have strongly rebuffed recent claims that Turkey’s maintenance arm, Turkish Technic, was involved in servicing the Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner that tragically crashed in Ahmedabad. Officials labeled the reports as “false” and dismissed them as “disinformation,” clarifying that Turkish Technic had no connection to the aircraft in question.
Crash Overview & Human Toll
The tragic incident occurred on June 12, shortly after Flight AI 171 departed from Ahmedabad. The aircraft descended steeply and crashed into a residential area, resulting in 241 fatalities onboard and around 38 deaths on the ground; only one passenger survived. A distressing mayday call described a failure to gain thrust before the aircraft plummeted.
Ongoing Investigation & Safety Measures
Investigators have retrieved the aircraft’s flight data and cockpit voice recorders. Initial examination is focusing on critical systems such as the engines, flaps, and takeoff configuration. In a move to ensure safety, Indian aviation authorities have ordered thorough inspections across the entire Air India 787 fleet. This probe is being carried out jointly by Indian regulators along with Boeing, engine manufacturer GE, and international authorities from the US and UK.
These developments clarify that Turkish Technic played no role in maintaining the ill-fated aircraft, helping to avoid misinformation. The investigation continues, with experts working to determine the exact sequence of failures and to take measures that prevent similar tragedies in the future.
