U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that the United States was “an hour away” from launching fresh military strikes on Iran before the operation was paused amid renewed diplomatic efforts. Trump stated that American warships and military assets were fully prepared for action, describing the situation as “all set to go.”
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the decision to hold back came after requests from key Gulf allies, who urged the U.S. to allow more time for negotiations with Tehran. Despite delaying the strikes, Trump warned that military action remains a strong possibility if Iran fails to agree to a deal regarding its nuclear programme.
“We may have to give them another big hit,” Trump said, adding that Iran’s leaders were “begging” to make a deal. He indicated that the U.S. could decide on further action within the next few days, stressing that Washington would not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons.
The remarks come amid rising tensions in the Middle East and ongoing discussions involving the United States, Iran, and regional allies. Reports suggest that Iran recently submitted revised peace proposals, including demands for sanctions relief, release of frozen funds, and an end to hostilities in the region.
According to officials, Trump later held a high-level meeting with his national security team to review military options and diplomatic developments. Senior officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, reportedly attended the discussions.
The developments have intensified global concerns over a possible escalation in the region, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments. While diplomatic efforts continue, the U.S. administration has made it clear that military options remain on the table if talks fail.
