Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrsky has been appointed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, replacing Valery Zaluzny.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he has appointed Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrsky to replace Valery Zaluzny as Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“The leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be taken over by a new management team from today,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a Telegram post, Xinhua news agency reported.
President Volodymyr Zelensky described Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrsky as the most experienced Ukrainian commander, saying he had a successful defensive experience during the operation to defend Kiev. Sirsky also had a successful offensive experience during the operation to recapture the eastern Kharkiv region from Russian forces.
Oleksandr Sirsky, 58, served as commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces between 2019 and 2024.
