Liverpool: Liverpool have completed the signing of Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo on a season-long loan for the 2026–27 campaign, strengthening their defence ahead of the new Premier League season.
The deal was confirmed after the Uruguay international completed his medical and finalised his move to Anfield. Liverpool had agreed terms with Barcelona over the weekend before completing the transfer.
Liverpool Add Defensive Reinforcement
The arrival of Araújo comes as Liverpool look to address a shortage of defensive options. The club have been dealing with injuries and other absences in the centre-back position, making additional defensive cover a priority.
Araújo is capable of playing both at centre-back and right-back, giving Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola greater flexibility when selecting his defensive line.

The loan agreement reportedly includes an option for Liverpool to make Araújo’s transfer permanent next summer.
According to reports cited by Barca Blaugranes, the purchase option is worth €55 million. Liverpool will have the opportunity to activate the clause if the defender impresses during his first season at Anfield.
