Mumbai: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is returning to the crime-thriller genre with his upcoming film Police Company, a T-Series production inspired by the Mumbai Police’s battle against organised crime during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The filmmaker announced the project on social media, revealing that Harshvardhan Rane will play a character inspired by former Mumbai Police officer Daya Nayak, one of the best-known members of the force’s special squad.
A Story Set Against Mumbai’s Underworld
According to Varma, the film will explore the period when gang rivalries were intensifying in Mumbai. The story is inspired by a special police squad created to counter the growing influence of organised crime.
Varma has previously explored Mumbai’s underworld in films such as Satya and Company, and the new project once again takes him into the world of gangsters, police operations and the city’s crime history.
Harshvardhan Rane Steps Into Daya Nayak-Inspired Role
Harshvardhan Rane will headline the film in a role based on Daya Nayak. The actor has already shared a glimpse of his first trial look as he prepares for the character.
Varma has said that Police Company will be based on the special squad and one of its prominent members. The director also indicated that the movie will feature a large ensemble cast, with further casting details expected to be announced later.
