A 30-year-old Assistant Section Officer working with the Ministry of Defence was found dead at her residence in Dwarka, Delhi, on August 21. The deceased, identified as Naziya Khanam, was reportedly pregnant at the time of her death. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, while her family has alleged that she was subjected to repeated mental and physical harassment by her husband and in-laws.
According to reports, Naziya had married Ajm Ali Khan on April 11, 2026, just four months before her death. Her father, Towab Khan, said she had repeatedly contacted her family and spoken about problems in her marital home. The family alleges that she had raised concerns about her husband’s behaviour but that the situation did not improve.
The FIR registered in connection with the case includes allegations of verbal abuse, physical assault and threats to her safety. Police have registered the case under Sections 85 and 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The circumstances of her death have also raised questions for her family. Relatives reportedly received a call around 4 am on August 21 informing them of her death. The family has expressed doubts over the circumstances and alleged that the incident may have been made to appear as a suicide.
According to the police account reported by The CSR Journal, Naziya’s husband told investigators that following an argument, he had locked himself in another room and later found her hanging from a window. A crime team was called to inspect and document the scene. Her family’s statements were subsequently recorded by an Executive Magistrate.
Naziya’s family has demanded a detailed investigation and legal action against those they hold responsible, including her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law. They have also sought a post-mortem examination and video documentation of the evidence.
The investigation is underway, and the allegations made by the family have not yet been established by a court. Authorities are expected to examine the forensic evidence, statements of relatives and other circumstances surrounding the death as they determine what happened.
