Actor-turned-politician Vijay launched a sharp attack on the Tamil Nadu government and the police during a public meeting in Karur, alleging that authorities unfairly attempted to hold him responsible for a recent stampede incident despite his cooperation with law enforcement.
Addressing supporters, Vijay said he had placed his trust in the police by following all the necessary guidelines for organizing public events. However, he claimed that when the stampede occurred, officials shifted the blame onto him instead of taking responsibility for crowd management and security arrangements.
“I trusted the police, but they put the stampede blame on me,” Vijay told the gathering, drawing loud cheers from party workers and supporters.
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader questioned why event organizers and political leaders are often made scapegoats when crowd-control mechanisms fail. He argued that public safety is a shared responsibility and that law enforcement agencies play a crucial role in ensuring large gatherings are managed effectively.
Vijay also expressed concern over what he described as politically motivated attempts to tarnish his image. He alleged that instead of conducting an impartial inquiry into the incident, authorities rushed to assign responsibility without considering the circumstances surrounding the event.
The actor-politician urged the government to focus on improving crowd management protocols rather than engaging in blame games. He stressed the need for better coordination between event organizers, local authorities, and the police to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The remarks come as Vijay continues to expand his political outreach across Tamil Nadu ahead of the state’s upcoming electoral battles. Since launching Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, he has intensified his public engagements, addressing large crowds and presenting his party’s vision on governance, employment, education, and social welfare.
The stampede incident has sparked widespread debate over safety measures at political and public events, with opposition parties and civil society groups calling for comprehensive reviews of crowd-control procedures. Authorities are expected to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine whether any lapses occurred in planning or execution.
Vijay concluded his address by assuring supporters that he would continue engaging with the people despite the controversy, emphasizing that accountability should be based on facts and a fair investigation rather than assumptions or political considerations.
