India has become the 10th country to lose a citizen in the recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, after an Indian national succumbed to injuries sustained in the strike. The incident has heightened concerns over civilian safety amid escalating regional tensions.
The deceased, Mohammad Yousuf Ali, was reportedly travelling with his family to Saudi Arabia for Umrah when the attack occurred on Saturday, October 10. According to reports, he sustained injuries after part of the airport structure collapsed following the strike. His wife and children were also injured, and his children were receiving medical treatment, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said.
More Than 300 Injured in Airport Attack
The attack on Riyadh’s international airport killed at least 12 people initially and injured more than 300 others. The reported fatalities included nationals of Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Sudan. Ali’s death subsequently increased the toll from the October 10 strike.
Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group claimed responsibility for the October 10 attack. Saudi authorities also reported another attack on the airport on Sunday, October 11, in which a Pakistani resident was killed, according to reports. The repeated strikes have raised concerns about the security of civilian infrastructure and international travel in the region.
India Condemns Attacks, Offers Assistance
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh confirmed the death of an Indian national and said it was in contact with the victim’s family to provide assistance, including arrangements for the repatriation of his remains. The embassy also coordinated with local authorities and hospitals to monitor the condition of injured Indian nationals.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs strongly condemned the repeated attacks on King Khalid International Airport, describing attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure as unacceptable. New Delhi expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and called for the attacks to cease immediately.
The incident underscores the risks faced by civilians as hostilities continue across the region. Indian authorities are monitoring the situation and coordinating with Saudi officials to assist affected citizens and their families.
