India and Seychelles have taken a major step toward strengthening their longstanding partnership by signing 19 agreements during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to the island nation. The wide-ranging pacts are aimed at expanding cooperation in areas such as defence, maritime security, trade, healthcare, education, digital technology, and sustainable development.
The agreements reflect the growing strategic relationship between the two countries, particularly in the Indian Ocean region, where maritime security and regional stability remain key priorities. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration to address common challenges while promoting economic growth and prosperity.
Prime Minister Modi and Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan also held high-level discussions on strengthening bilateral ties and increasing cooperation in sectors including renewable energy, infrastructure development, capacity building, and climate resilience. India reiterated its support for Seychelles’ development priorities through technical assistance and investment.
Maritime security featured prominently during the discussions, with both nations agreeing to deepen cooperation in safeguarding the Indian Ocean against illegal fishing, piracy, and other transnational threats. India also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Seychelles in enhancing its coastal surveillance and maritime capabilities.
The leaders emphasized the importance of expanding people-to-people exchanges, tourism, education, and cultural cooperation. New initiatives aimed at improving digital connectivity and skill development are expected to create additional opportunities for both countries.
Speaking during the visit, Prime Minister Modi described Seychelles as one of India’s trusted partners in the Indian Ocean and reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to supporting the country’s long-term development goals.
The visit marks another milestone in India-Seychelles relations, reinforcing a partnership built on mutual trust, shared democratic values, and a common vision for peace, security, and sustainable development across the Indian Ocean region.
