Gurugram Police have arrested the driver accused of hitting a female biker in a viral road-rage incident on Golf Course Road, bringing a major development in a case that sparked widespread outrage on social media. The accused, identified as Kalyan Bainsla, was arrested in Rajasthan on Tuesday.
The incident took place during a Sunday ride when the woman biker, identified as Sia, was travelling with a group of fellow riders. According to her account, a white sedan began following the group and continued to drive aggressively after she asked the driver to maintain a safe distance. Video footage later shared online appeared to show the car moving into the biker’s path and hitting her motorcycle.
The impact threw Sia off her Aprilia RS 457 motorcycle, while the bike was dragged several metres along the road. The car allegedly fled the scene after the collision. Another biker reportedly followed the vehicle and confronted the driver at a traffic signal, but the driver left the area. The footage of the incident and its aftermath subsequently went viral, receiving millions of views.
Following the circulation of the video, Gurugram Police took suo motu cognisance of the incident and registered an FIR at Sector 56 Police Station. Initially, the case included charges related to rash driving and endangering public safety, while police teams were deployed to trace the accused.
Police later identified Bainsla as the alleged driver and arrested him in Rajasthan. Following further investigation and analysis of CCTV footage, authorities added an attempt-to-murder charge under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and the accused’s actions.
The accused has reportedly disputed the allegation that he intentionally hit the biker, claiming that the incident was an accident and that the bikers had provoked him. Sia has rejected this version and questioned why the driver did not stop after the collision if it was unintentional.
The case has renewed concerns over road safety, reckless driving and road rage, particularly after the disturbing footage spread rapidly online. Authorities are expected to take further legal action as the investigation progresses.
