Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim over breakfast in New Delhi on Sunday, September 13, on the sidelines of the ongoing BRICS Summit. The meeting brought together the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Congress MP with the Malaysian premier during his visit to India.

The two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2024. During Modi’s official visit to Malaysia in February 2026, both sides agreed to expand cooperation across defence, maritime affairs, trade, technology, digital economy, education, health, agriculture and people-to-people ties.
Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to India therefore comes against the backdrop of expanding India-Malaysia engagement and Malaysia’s growing participation in broader multilateral platforms. His meetings with Indian political leaders, including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, add another dimension to the diplomatic activity surrounding the BRICS Summit.
