New Delhi, January 2 (UITV)- The Government of India has presented some options to the family of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh regarding his memorial. These options include the names of places like National Memorial, Rajghat or Kisan Ghat, where his memorial is likely to be built.
According to information received from government sources, Manmohan Singh’s family has been given the right to choose the place to build the memorial and after the family selects a certain place, the process of forming a trust will be started. The purpose of this trust will be to implement the plan for the construction of the memorial and to oversee the activities related to that memorial in future.
However, no decision has been taken by the family regarding any specific place yet, but the government has considered the possible locations. There is a possibility of giving one to one and a half acres of land near Rajghat, National Memorial or Kisan Ghat for Manmohan Singh’s memorial.
According to government sources, at present the officials have visited Rajghat and its surrounding areas and the initial assessment of the land available there is being done. The process of land allotment has not been completed yet, as the trust is yet to be formed. Once the trust is formed and the land allotment process is completed, the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) will be signed with the CPWD, only after which the construction of the memorial can be started.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh died on 26 December 2024. After his death, the Congress party had demanded the central government to take steps regarding his memorial. The Congress had urged the government to build Manmohan Singh’s memorial at places where memorials of other great leaders already exist, such as Rajghat, where Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial is located. Congress leaders had also alleged that why the government is not yet able to allocate a proper place at one place for Manmohan Singh’s funeral and memorial. The Congress General Secretary had said, “The people of the country are not able to understand why the government is not able to find a place at one place for his funeral and memorial.” There are already 19 memorials located on the land around Rajghat, including memorials of former presidents, prime ministers and deputy prime ministers. Apart from this, memorials of Sanjay Gandhi and Lalita Shastri (who was the wife of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri) are also in the area. However, there is no new update on Manmohan Singh’s memorial at the moment. According to Congress party sources, they have not received any new information about the construction of the memorial yet and the construction process is getting delayed due to the government not finding suitable land yet.
In this situation, the government has however started the process and is trying to find land. Sources say that the land allotment may take a few more days, as the trust is yet to be formed. Once the trust is formed, it will apply for the land and then it will be looked at by the CPWD. Only then will the work of memorial construction begin.
Manmohan Singh’s contribution has been extremely important in Indian politics. As the Prime Minister of India, he initiated many important economic reforms and policies that gave a new direction to the country’s development. After his demise, his memorial will be established as his lasting legacy in Indian politics and society, which will become a source of inspiration for generations to come.
Along with the construction of the memorial, both the government and the family will together ensure that this place becomes a symbol of tribute and his hard work, dedication and contribution to the society is remembered.
