A total of 991 players have registered for the Indian Premier League auction to be held on December 23 in Kochi.
In a media release, the BCCI said: “The list of players includes 185 capped, 786 uncapped and 20 players from Associate Nations.
Those registered in the INR 2 crore price band, the highest in the auction, include the likes of Sam Curran, Man of the Tournament of the recently concluded T20 WC. Curran is joined by Ben Stokes and seven other English players in the highest bracket.
From Australia, all-rounder Cameron Green is among those named in the highest bracket, while notable omissions from the overall list include the likes of Mitchell Starc and Alex Hales who did not register.
Among the registered Indian players, whose net worth is INR 1 crore are Mayank Agarwal, Manish Pandey and Kedar Yadav.
“If each franchise can have a maximum of 25 players in their squad, then 87 players (of which up to 30 can be foreign players) can be bought in the auction,” read a BCCI statement.
The registered list is trimmed before the auction and the parties should shortlist the names before they go to the auction.
Dominant players in IPL
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering extending the Impact Player Experiment to the IPL. It was first launched in this year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy competition and the response was apparently very good. In the IPL governing council meeting held virtually on Thursday night, the BCCI decided to introduce the impact player rule in the IPL as well.
BCCI in its note to the franchises said, “Note that from the IPL 2023 season a strategic/strategic concept will be introduced to add a new dimension to the IPL, where one substitute player in each team will be able to take a more active part in IPL matches. Rules in this regard soon. will be issued.”
