Bhubaneswar, October 26: The Odisha government is taking steps to set up 100 chess training centers across the state in line with its mission to transform Odisha into a sports hub. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met the Woman Grandmaster and Vice President of the FIDE (International Chess Federation) Management Board and former Latvia Minister Dana Reznis-Ozola, during which they expressed their commitment to promote chess in the state.
Patnaik reaffirmed the government’s dedication to providing youth with the best development opportunities and recognized chess as a powerful avenue for intellectual and emotional development. He said the state already has a state-level chess academy called “Pro-Chess-Ta” and a “Chess in Schools” project. Additionally, there are plans to set up more than 100 chess training centers across Odisha.
At the meeting, Patnaik and Reznis-Ozola stressed the importance of popularizing chess as a mental game due to its ability to intellectually and emotionally empower the youth. He discussed the importance of identifying and supporting young chess talents and providing them with the necessary infrastructure and training to excel at national and international levels.
Reznis-Ozola lauded Chief Minister Patnaik and the Government of Odisha for their unwavering efforts in promoting the game’s development among the youth, highlighting their commitment to nurturing talent and promoting chess as a valuable activity.
