Chennai, Aug 12 – The Asian Champions Trophy Hockey 2023 final between India and Malaysia will be played in Chennai on Saturday night. While the Harmanpreet-led side defeated Japan 5–0 in the semi-finals, India entered the final for the fifth time, while Malaysia defeated former champions South Korea 6–2 to enter the final.
India has presented a strong claim to the trophy by defeating Japan in the semi-finals by demonstrating their aggressive game. There was no goal in the first quarter, but in the second quarter, the Indian team showed aggressive play and Akashdeep Singh (19th minute), Harmanpreet Singh (23rd), Mandeep Singh (30th) scored 1-1 for India. Made it 3-0. After that Sumit (39th) and Selvam Karthi (51st) scored 1-1 as India won the match 5-0.
Indian team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has joined the club of playing 300 matches and eight players before him are Dilip Tirkey (412), Dhanraj Pillai (339), Baljit Singh Dhillon (327), Sardar Singh (314), Pargat Singh (313) ), Mukesh Kumar (307), Baljit Singh Saini (304) and Manpreet Singh (320).
