India enjoyed a golden day in compound archery at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday, winning gold in both the women’s team and mixed team events. The mixed-team triumph also secured India a quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where compound mixed-team archery will make its Olympic debut.
The women’s compound team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi began the golden run by defeating China 238-234 in the final. Their score also equalled the world record of 238 set by South Korea at the 2014 Asian Games.
Later, Chikitha Taniparthi returned to the field alongside Sahil Jadhav for the mixed team final against South Korea’s Park Jungyoon and Choi Yonghee.
The Indian pair made a strong start, building an 80-78 lead after the opening two ends. However, South Korea fought back and eventually levelled the contest at 157-157 after the regulation rounds, forcing a shoot-off.
Under pressure, Chikitha and Sahil delivered two perfect 10s in the shoot-off. South Korea managed a 10 and a 9, giving India a 20-19 victory and another Asian Games gold medal.
The mixed-team victory carried significance beyond the Asian Games podium. Since compound archery will make its Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028, the Asian Games title provided India with a qualification quota for the mixed-team event, securing one men’s and one women’s quota place.
For Chikitha, the day brought a second gold medal after her success in the women’s team event. For Indian compound archery, the results continued the country’s strong record in the discipline, with both teams retaining titles won at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou.
India’s compound archers therefore left the field with two gold medals and an Olympic qualification secured, adding another major chapter to the country’s campaign at the 2026 Asian Games.
