Washington, October 20: President Joe Biden has announced a substantial humanitarian aid package for war-torn Palestine during his historic seven-hour visit to Tel Aviv. This first visit by an American President is being seen as an important humanitarian success. However, there are challenges in getting aid to Palestinians in desperate need. President Biden is expected to address Congress on Thursday to unveil details of the aid package and seek approval from the House.
During his return from Tel Aviv on Air Force One, President Biden informed reporters that 20 trucks of aid from Egypt would be allowed into Gaza once road damage caused by Israeli air strikes was repaired.
Despite this positive development, humanitarian officials have cautioned that many issues need to be resolved to improve the lives of the besieged population in Gaza.
President Biden said Egypt had agreed to allow 20 trucks with aid to cross the Rafah border crossing into Gaza.
On the other hand, both US and Israeli officials have suggested that the attack on the Gaza hospital appears to be the result of a failed rocket launch by a terrorist group in Gaza.
More than 100 aid trucks were waiting to enter Gaza in the Egyptian city of al-Arish. However, Palestinians on the Gaza side expressed concerns about the size of the initial distribution and how it would reach those in need.
While aboard Air Force One, President Biden stressed America’s caution about the misappropriation or theft of humanitarian aid by Hamas terrorists. He said, “If Hamas diverts or steals aid, they will have demonstrated once again that they have no concern for the welfare of the Palestinian people. As a practical matter, it will be difficult for the international community to be able to provide this aid.” “Will stop that from happening.”
