New Delhi, January 7 (UITV) – The Health Ministry has tightened its belt in view of the increasing cases of HMPV (Human Metapneumovirus) virus in the country. After a serious review on the situation of respiratory diseases in the country, the Union Health Secretary has urged the states to take steps for effective management of HMPV. He especially directed to further tighten the surveillance of influenza-like symptoms (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI).
The Health Secretary also said that the states should not only increase the surveillance of respiratory diseases, but also run a campaign to increase awareness about preventive measures among the public, so that such cases can be detected on time and appropriate steps can be taken. It has also been asked to ensure that cases related to respiratory infection are treated timely and they are reviewed regularly, so that there is no lapse in dealing with this disease.
The Union Health Ministry has expressed deep concern over the situation of this virus and officials have also urged the states to issue advisories. Due to the increase in cases related to this virus, coordination is now being increased at both the central and state levels.
The HMPV virus, also known as Human Metapneumovirus, mainly affects the respiratory system. This virus was first found in China and has now reached India as well. Cases related to this virus have been confirmed in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. The Maharashtra government has issued an advisory in this regard.
The symptoms of the HMPV virus are similar to those of COVID-19, but it can be especially dangerous for infants and young children. Its common symptoms include cough, mild fever, wheezing, runny nose and sore throat. In some cases, difficulty in breathing may also occur after infection, which can make this virus serious.
According to experts from the health department, the HMPV virus can cause swelling and irritation in the respiratory system of the infected person, causing difficulty in breathing. This infection can have a profound effect on children and may also require hospitalization.
The Union Health Ministry has now advised the state governments to be more vigilant regarding the cases of this virus. Along with increasing surveillance in the states, health workers are being made aware of the symptoms of this virus, so that they can provide timely treatment and control the infection before it spreads.
The Health Ministry has instructed the states to increase testing facilities to identify cases of HMPV virus as soon as possible and effectively implement public health measures. Apart from this, the central government has also asked the World Health Organization to constantly receive updates on the status of this virus, so that it can be ensured that the country is prepared for every situation.
Health Ministry officials also said that it is important to increase the awareness campaign related to this virus, so that people can recognize its symptoms and get timely treatment. They are being told that if symptoms like cough, fever and difficulty in breathing appear, contact the doctor immediately.
Along with this, preventive measures such as washing hands, wearing masks and avoiding crowded places are being advised. Such public health measures can not only prevent the spread of the virus but will also help protect people from infection.
The increasing cases of HMPV virus have alerted the Health Ministry. The central and state governments are jointly taking various steps to identify, treat and prevent this virus. Following the instructions of the Health Secretary, steps are being taken by the states to increase surveillance and spread awareness among the public. Alertness to the symptoms of HMPV virus and timely treatment can reduce the impact of this virus and prevent its spread.
