Israeli forces have taken control of major roads along the Gaza-Egypt border, known as the Philadelphia area. Also, the Israeli army has also discovered 20 tunnels on the Gaza-Egypt border.
These tunnels were used for cross-border smuggling. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari shared this information on Wednesday night. He said that several rocket launchers were also found on the border.
A spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces said the strip of newly occupied land stretches 14 kilometers along the Gaza-Egypt border. Arms were smuggled through this route.
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the Israeli military already knew about some of the 20 tunnels discovered, while others had yet to be discovered.
A spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces said that 82 tunnel shafts leading to tunnels were located in the newly occupied border areas.
The IDF said its troops were in control of most of the corridor, but a small section was under aerial surveillance.
In his statement, the Israel Defense Forces spokesman said that Hamas terrorists had deployed rocket launchers near the Egyptian border because they thought that Israel would not fire on them and that they would reach Egyptian territory.
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said Hamas took advantage of the Philadelphia area. Hamas built its infrastructure a few meters from the Egyptian border, so that we could not attack there.
