United Nations, July 9 (UITV) – On Monday, Russia attacked a children’s hospital in Ukraine, on which the United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting today, Tuesday. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned this Russian attack.
On Monday, Russia attacked Ukraine’s largest children’s health center, and on the same day, Russia launched 40 missile strikes in several other parts of the country.
Russia is the President of the Security Council for this month. A meeting of the United Nations Security Council has been convened at the request of the three permanent members France, Britain and the United States and the temporary members Ecuador and Slovenia, which will be chaired by Russia.
Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said direct attacks on civilians and civilian structures are prohibited under international humanitarian law. If any such attack is made, then such attack cannot be accepted. It should be eliminated immediately.
He further said that the Okhmatdit National Children’s Hospital in Kyiv was attacked by Russian missiles, and another medical facility in the capital was also targeted by missiles.
He said a representative of Guterres would also attend the Security Council meeting.
According to media reports, two children and a doctor have died in the Russian attack on the children’s hospital. Many war victims children were being treated in this hospital.
Around 40 people were killed in the attacks across the country on Monday. The UN Security Council has been unable to act on Ukraine due to vetoes by Russia and China. This month, Russia holds the presidency of the Security Council, so any attempt to act on these attacks will fail.
