US intelligence agencies have briefed former President Donald Trump on credible and specific threats to his life, allegedly from Iran, aimed at destabilizing the country, according to his campaign communications director.
In recent months, two assassination attempts have reportedly targeted the 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate.
“Former President Trump was briefed earlier today by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence regarding real and specific threats from Iran, which are part of an effort to destabilize and sow chaos in the United States,” said Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign communications director, late Tuesday night.
Cheung added that intelligence officials have identified these “continued and coordinated” threats, which have escalated in recent months. He also mentioned that law enforcement agencies across various levels are working to ensure Trump’s safety and protect the upcoming November election from external interference.
The first failed assassination attempt reportedly took place on July 13 during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a bullet allegedly grazed Trump’s ear. The second attempt occurred on September 15 at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
A 58-year-old suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, was charged on Tuesday for attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate after being found with a gun outside the Florida golf course.
Cheung also pointed to geopolitical implications, stating, “Make no mistake, the terror regime in Iran thrives on the perceived weakness of Kamala Harris but fears the strength and resolve of President Trump. He is determined to fight for the American people and will not be deterred from his mission to Make America Great Again.”
The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for November 5, with Trump set to face the Democratic Party’s candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris.
