Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have agreed to start screening the Ukrainian law. It is believed that the move to introduce screening of Ukrainian law is being done to comply with EU laws.
Ukrainian legislation to start negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union is being screened, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the Ukrainian Presidential Press Service.
The 54th World Economic Forum has been organized in Davos, Switzerland. On this occasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen met. Zelensky and von der Leyen discussed other key priorities on the EU-Ukraine agenda ahead of the actual opening of accession negotiations.
He also negotiated a 50 billion euro (about $54.4 billion) aid package for Ukraine from the European Union. During this conversation it was told that this aid package will be discussed in a session of the European Council on 1 February.
EU leaders agreed last month, saying they were ready to start membership talks with Ukraine.
The Ukrainian government stated that for Ukraine to join the EU, Ukraine needs to implement 2,739 laws before it can join the EU.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reached Switzerland on Monday.
