Indian actor and stand-up comedian Vir Das has earned his third International Emmy nomination, with his Netflix comedy special “Vir Das: Fool Volume” receiving a nomination in the Comedy category at the 2026 International Emmy Awards. The recognition makes Das the first Indian performer to receive three International Emmy nominations.
Das previously received his first nomination in 2021 for “Vir Das: For India.” In 2023, his special “Vir Das: Landing” won the International Emmy for Comedy. He also became the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards ceremony in 2024.
Reacting to the latest nomination, Das described the achievement as a surreal moment. He said “Fool Volume” emerged from a period when he had literally lost his voice, making it particularly meaningful to see a project that began in silence reach the international awards platform.
“Fool Volume” was created under unusual circumstances. Das lost his voice shortly before the special was scheduled to be filmed and subsequently rewrote much of the material in silence. The special was filmed across Mumbai, London and New York and explores themes including silence, self-doubt, identity and rediscovering joy. It was released on Netflix in July 2025.
The 2026 International Emmy nomination places “Fool Volume” alongside “Division Palermo: Season 2,” “Man vs Baby” and “Old Dog, New Tricks” in the Comedy category.
The nominations were announced on September 23, with India receiving two nominations this year. Alongside Vir Das’ “Fool Volume,” Sony LIV’s drama series “Real Kashmir Football Club” has been nominated in the Drama Series category.
For Das, the latest recognition continues a five-year journey at the International Emmys, beginning with “For India,” followed by his win for “Landing” and now a third nomination for “Fool Volume.” The 2026 International Emmy winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in New York on November 23.
